News from the tavern #1 – map generation, sounds and animations

Hello from BroWar Collective!

In the "news from the tavern" devlog series you can peek behind the scenes of LowPolis development. So, we’ve been working on giving you more options to enjoy LowPolis!

Map generation

Procedurally generated levels are almost there – not without challenges though. The terrain generator needs to be designed in a way that allows it to produce maps that make sense. At the moment it’s still something that our lead, Matek, needs to polish.

Do you like the idea? Drop a comment in the thread below!

Mountains and rivers are cool as long as you can build a city between them! :D Anyway, check out these 2D terrain mockups. That’s how we’re getting an idea of what the generator can produce with current settings.

Sound design

There’s one more thing – sounds! LowPolis is getting its full set of sounds, courtesy of vvrvvd (Sir Victor)! We just need to make sure that sounds are played harmoniously and don’t get on your nerves when cities grow in size. Another thing is deciding ‘where sounds will be coming from’ since the camera is usually over the city.

Well, the large part of what we’re doing is to make sure you feel that everything is in place!

Animated buildings

In the meanwhile our designer, killjoke is trying to put more life into the city with animations for buildings. After all, it’s good to see that work is happening at production buildings. A window or door that open here and there do make a difference too!

LowPolis is also closer to having its own Steam page.
You’ll be able to add the game to your wishlist and play the demo directly through Steam. ;>

Sure, new maps mean opportunities for some creative city designs. I'm myself excited at the thought of having a nice choice of levels for screenshots and videos! :D

Haha, thanks!

We're pretty sure that by now people have learnt the map layout by heart. You can't really play the same level over and over again. ;)
